HOW TO REGISTER:  Fill out the registration form for the desired class date, and then pay your deposit by Paypal (click on the Pay Now button on this page), or make arrangements to mail a check.  You will receive confirmation of your registration and deposit payment, along with directions to the classroom.  PLEASE NOTE: You must complete the registration form AND pay your deposit at signup to guarantee your spot in the course.

DESCRIPTION:  This non-shooting course teaches students the basic knowledge, skills,  and explains the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home.  This is a four (4) hour course for safe gun handling that is conducted in the classroom only.

Students will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, course completion certificate.

Please note that we will have NO LIVE AMMO in the classroom, so secure any firearm and ammo in your locked vehicle outside for safety purposes.

This class includes instruction on:
- NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling;

- Primary causes of firearms accidents;
- Firearm parts;
- How to unload certain action types;
- Ammunition components;
- Cleaning; care;
- Safe storage of firearms in the home;
- Benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports.

Instructor Candidates will attend the student level course as outlined above, and continue consecutively to Instructor Training, which teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential in organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Home Firearm Safety Course.

Prerequisite: Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a perquisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the course, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises.  Must be an NRA Certified Instructor, and be current on your Basic Instructor Training (BIT), within the past 24 months to be eligible to attend.

Instructor Candidates demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination. Instructor Candidates will receive the appropriate NRA Instructor Candidate Packet (includes lesson plans for the course you are preparing to teach), and appropriate NRA basic course student packet.
